UK to spend $9 Million on Queen’s Funeral While 2 million Go Hungry
Amidst recession warnings and skyrocketing costs of living, the United Kingdom is projected to spend $9 million on Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. Other media reports such as The Evening Standard project $6.9 billion in funeral expenses and other related costs such as providing security for world leaders, King Charles coronation expenses and new holidays’ impact on local businesses.
Critics have pointed out that the high costs come at a time when over two million people in the UK cannot afford to eat food as the country gears up for a recession. 1 in 3 children in the UK live in poverty and 1 in 7 adults skip on meals. 81% of schools are also reporting a rise in child hunger.
Others say that while tax payer money will fund the Queen’s funeral, King Charles is set to inherit the $500 million fortune without paying inheritance tax. His son, Prince William inherits the 140,000 acre Duchy of Cornwall estate from his father worth $1 billion.
