In February 1947, with increasing hostilities in Palestine and the British exhausted by WWII, Britain announced it would terminate its trust mandate on the Palestinians that would lead them to self-governance and instead referred the issue to the United Nations.
The First Zionist Congress was held in Switzerland which established the World Zionist Organization with Herzl as its president. Zionists knew the plan for the Jewish State would require backing by one of the world’s great powers.
The Gaza Strip has been under siege by the Israeli entity since 2007 which has imposed a land, air, and sea blockade; all of which are in violation of international law. Gaza is one of the world's most densely populated areas with a population of 2.3 million people in an area of about 140 square miles.
