US to Call for a Ceasefire in Gaza After Using Veto Power Against a Ceasefire Three Times

The US is officially circulating a new draft resolution which will be presented at the United Nations Security council, calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza but conditioned with the release of the Israeli captives, according to Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State.

After vetoing for a ceasefire in Gaza three times and heavily funding the “Israeli” regime with weapons against its onslaught in Gaza, the US is now calling for an end to the occupation entity’s war in the Palestinian territory almost six months later.

In a visit to Saudi Arabia, Blinken spoke to local media outlets saying,

“Well, in fact, we actually have a resolution that we put forward right now that’s before the United Nations Security Council that does call for an immediate ceasefire tied to the release of hostages, and we hope very much that countries will support that.”

“Of course, we stand with Israel and its right to defend itself… but at the same time, it’s imperative that the civilians who are in harm’s way and who are suffering so terribly -– that we focus on them, that we make them a priority, protecting the civilians, getting them humanitarian assistance,” Blinken added.

The US has repeatedly abused its veto power against ceasefire resolutions since the begining of the genocide in Gaza, with the latest one being only a month again after an Algerian-sponsored resolution was brought to the table.

Notably, the Palestinian Resistance on multiple occasions has clarified that any proposal that does not include its non-negotiables (the cessation of all aggression against Gaza, the release of Palestinian prisoners, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the reconstruction of infrastructure and return of displaced people to their homes) would not be considered.

The US backed “Israeli” brutal war in Gaza has killed more than 31,000 people mostly women and children, wounding over 70,000 with 7,000 still said to be underneath the rubble. The US backed Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip has also imposed a crippling blockade pushing all of Gaza’s 2.2 million people to rising levels of hunger, with almost 65% facing man-made famine.
