US Claims Responsibility for Assassinating Senior Iraqi Resistance Leader in Baghdad

The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon has condemned the US for assassinating the Iraqi leader, Abu Baqir Al-Saadi, in Baghdad on Feb. 8 2024.

 “[We] have full confidence in the fighters from our Iraqi people, who are determined to adhere to the path of Resistance and liberation, and to continue supporting and assisting the oppressed Palestinian people.” their statement said.

The US claimed responsibility for the targeted attack that struck a car, which resulted in the the assassination of Iraq’s Kataeb leader, Abu Baqer al-Saadi, confirming that its forces carried out a “unilateral strike in Iraq in response to the attacks on US service members.” 

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) accused the targeted commander as “responsible for directly planning and participating in attacks on US forces in the region.”

The Kataeb organization is known to  be the Iraqi resistance faction that effectively suspended military operations against US bases “in a strategic maneuver.”
