Spain, Norway, and Ireland Officially Recognize Palestine as a State, Leaving Israel Dismayed
Spain, Ireland, and Norway have now formally and officially recognized Palestine as a state in a joint effort to increase international pressure on the Israeli regime to halt its ongoing war on Gaza that has now killed more than 36,000 Palestinians since Oct 7, 2023.
“This is a historic decision that has a single goal, and that is to help Israelis and Palestinians achieve peace,” Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stated. Adding that the move to recognize Palestine as a state is “the only way of advancing toward what everyone recognizes as the only possible solution to achieve a peaceful future, one of a Palestinian state that lives side by side with the Israeli state in peace and security.”
The Prime Minister then confirmed Madrid is also recognizing a unified Palestinian state, including the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, with East Jerusalem as its capital under the Palestinian National Authority.
The Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, Israel Katz, took to social media boldly claiming, “Prime Minister Sanchez … when you don’t fire your deputy and announce the recognition of a Palestinian state – you are complicit in inciting the Jewish genocide and war crimes.”
Ireland’s Prime Minister Simon Harris also said in a statement, “We had wanted to recognize Palestine at the end of a peace process, however, we have made this move alongside Spain and Norway to keep the miracle of peace alive.”
“This is an important moment, and I think it sends a signal to the world that there are practical actions you can take as a country to help keep the hope and destination of a two-state solution alive at a time when others are trying to sadly bomb it into oblivion,” Harris added before a cabinet meeting to formally sign off on the decision.
On Tuesday, May 28, the Irish Prime Minister insinuated the EU ought to sanction by stating, “Europe could be doing a hell of a lot more.”
This has reportedly led the Israeli regime to ban diplomatic visits and visas for Ireland, Norway, and Spain.
