Nine Countries Suspend Funding to UNRWA for Palestinians After ICJ Ruling
9 countries have suspended funding to UNRWA for Palestinians after the Israeli regime accused some UNRWA staff of involvement in the October 7 attacks. This move comes shortly after the ICJ provisional ruling that asked the occupation entity to prevent acts of genocide on the Palestinians.
The US, U.K, Germany, Canada, Finland, Italy, Netherlands, Australia and Switzerland are among the nine countries that have decided to halt funding of food aid to the starving Palestinians in Gaza amid food shortages.
“Palestinians in Gaza did not need this additional collective punishment,” Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA commissioner-general, said on X, formerly Twitter. “This stains all of us.”
“In Gaza’s rebuilding, UNRWA must be replaced with agencies dedicated to genuine peace and development,” he added.
UNRWA was formed for primarily assisting displaced refugees during the 1948 birth and invasion by the Israeli Regime on indigenous Palestinians. The agency focuses on providing health, education and aid services to Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.
