At the Madrid conference on June 30th, NATO’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned that the situation in Ukraine can get worse and could turn into a full scale war between NATO and Russia. It has already deployed 40,000 troops in the eastern flank, he said.

The United States and the alliance have sent millions of dollars in modern weaponry to Ukraine, and Canada says they will be sending armored personnel carriers there as well. NATO and its alliances have sent billions of dollars in donated arms in the past few months. According to the US State Department, the Biden administration alone has committed nearly $7 billion amidst the US inflation crisis.

Putin on the other hand warns that Russia would expand its offensive if the West upgraded Ukraine’s weapons supplies.

The influx of advanced weaponry into Ukraine is now being sold in the black market and spreading across West Asia. According to former senior Pentagon adviser Karen Kwiatkowski, this is happening due to Kiev forces’ inexperience, logistical challenges and the shrinking size of the armed forces. The sales of military gifts made to the blackmarket will inadvertently line the pockets of Ukrainian authorities.

As NATO strategically prolongs the war in Ukraine and Russia seeks to limit Western influence in the region, the middle and working class will face the brunt through loss of life, censorship, increased inflation, supply chain issues and a myriad of security concerns.
