66-year-old Drunk Woman Kills Two Children and Injures Several Others by Driving into Birthday Party
An 8-year-old girl and her 5-year-old brother were killed in a car crash where the suspected drunk driver rammed into a young child’s birthday party on Saturday at a boat club, according to a Michigan Sheriff.
The 66-year-old drunken driver, drove 25 feet into the building at around 3 p.m at the Swan Creek Boat Club in Berlin Township, about 30 miles (48.2 kilometers) south of Detroit,
“The scene was described by the first responders as extremely chaotic, with a high level of emotions of those directly involved and those who witnessed this horrific incident,” a sheriff said.
Three children and six adults were rushed to area hospitals by two helicopters or ambulances, sustaining life-threatening injuries. The others who were injured received first aid on the ground and a few others were taken to hospitals by private vehicles.
The woman is yet to be identified and is currently held at the Monroe County Jail. It was also revealed that the woman was likely at a nearby bar prior to the incident.
Around 32% of all traffic crash fatalities in the US are caused by drunk drivers. In 2022 alone, 13,524 people were killed by drunk drivers. Shockingly from 2013-2022, around 11,000 people died every year in cases involving drunk-driving, suggesting a high level of alcohol consumption by people in the US.
