NATO Pledges $43 Billion in Military Support to Ukraine with Path to Membership

During the NATO Summit taking place in Washington DC, the NATO Council and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed increased military, financial, and political support aimed at intensifying Ukraine’s capabilities against Russia.

NATO pledged it will provide a minimum of $43 billion of financial support over the next year, with new measures that would further pave the way for Ukraine to become a NATO member.

In addition, the US, Netherlands, and Denmark announced that Ukraine would be receiving F-16 fighter jets later this year.

The US also announced it would deploy long-range missiles in Germany in 2026, aimed at countering Russia’s growing ‘threat’ in Europe – marking the first time for such heavy weapon storage since the Cold War.

Since the War in Ukraine began, the US alone has provided about $51.4 billion in military support to Kiev.

During the Summit, pro-Palest-ine protesters were seen calling for a ceasefire in Ga-za for the second day in a row.

Activists demonstrated with loudspeakers, protesting against hosting NATO members as well as US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

“We came here to protest and speak out against the US secretary of state and against [NATO],” said a US activist who had been demonstrating for a ceasefire in Ga-za for months.

“It is sad to give any justification for Western military spending at this point in human history, especially as we witness Western bombs tearing children apart every day at the hands of the Israeli occupation army,” the activist added.
